FAYI Food Aid Network is a collaborative project formed in October 2023 by a network of organizations to address food insecurity among vulnerable populations in Attica. Designed as a Free Shop in central Athens, FAYI offers a welcoming space where individuals and families living below the poverty line can access nutritious food and hygiene items based on a point system which takes into account family size and age distribution.
By entralizing registration and assessment, FAYI prioritizes support for the most vulnerable and ensures fair distribution of resources. The program provides six months of support with an option for reassessment, promoting self-sufficiency while alleviating stress related to food access. In each visit, clients are enabled to select items based on their points according to their needs within 30 minutes, empowering them with choice and autonomy. Items are handled with care to ensure the right type of assistance is provided efficiently and respectfully.
FAYI supports refugees, migrants, and other vulnerable individuals and families living below the poverty line in Attica, regardless of their legal status. Many of our beneficiaries face challenges such as unemployment, housing insecurity, limited access to public services, and social exclusion.
